COURSE DESCRIPTION

 Through the class, students can learn all topics required in AP Chemistry class. Though there are no lab component, knowledge of lab will be covered through the lecture and the video. It could replace the AP Chem class at the school and be ideal for those who want to self-studying AP Chem.

Instructor: Professor Jie Song

Class Schedule: 7/31, 8/2, 8/4, 8/6,  8/7,  8/9,  8/11,   8/13,   8/26,  8/27,  8/28,  8/29,  9/2,  9/3

Summer (14 classes): It starts from July 31 and ends on September 3. The class will be held 6:30-8:30pm (CT).

HOURS:  14 classes, 2 hours each class.

TUITION: $980

TEXTBOOK : An ebook and other course materials will be supplied. Students are welcome to buy the hard copy.

INSTRUCTION

The class will be taught remotely using ZOOM. If you will be absent, please let me know in advance. I can provide a recording of the class to help catch up.

TESTS: There are seven exams and students will take them out of the classroom and we will go over during the lecture.

Instructor: Prof. Jie Song

Prof. Song graduated in 2002 with a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry (Theoretical/computational Chemistry) and did postdoctoral research at Ames Laboratory, USDOE. Since 2004, he has been Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor of Chemistry at University of Michigan-Flint and regularly teaches one-year General Chemistry (the college analog of AP Chemistry) and Physical Chemistry.

Dr. Song has tutored many high school students in AP Chemistry;  among them, 60% got 5 in the AP Chemistry examination  and 30% a grade of 4. In addition, many students qualified for the USNCO National Exam and about 10 students got USNCO High Honor Award (nationally top 50), Honor Award (top 150), Honorable mention (nationally top 151-200), USNCO summer camp (top 20), Canadian summer camp (top 10), as well as 2021 US IChO team (won a gold medal) and 2022 Canada IChO team. In addition, he also serves as the judge for Special Award at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair.
