Course 1- English Writing and Research Seminar

Instructor: Pofessor Haley Stoner

Time: Wed 6-7:30pm Central Time

Course Tuition: $625 (Register before Jan 1st, $25 early bird discount)

Location: Classes will be taught online via ZOOM. Students will receive the ZOOM login information after registration and before classes begin.

Advanced Composition and Textual Analysis: Spring 2022 Seminar

This 14-week course will be offered through Zoom on Wednesdays from 6:00-7:30 pm (CST). Seats available for this course: 10-20

Course Description: In this advanced course, students will learn through individualized instruction that increases success in current English classes and prepares them for the college level. Several skills essential for high performance on exams and personal essays used for college admissions will be highlighted. Writers will train in grammar, style, and mechanics while writing and reading in various modes of composition. Critical essays will be developed through revision to include in writing portfolios. Special emphasis will be placed on research skills and project development. No textbook is required for this course; the instructor will provide new online texts throughout the semester. This course is designed for driven students in 7th-11thgrade levels.

 

Course 2- English Reading and Writing

This 14-week course will be offered through Zoom on Wednesdays from 5:00-6:00 pm (CST). Seats available for this course: 10-20

Course Description: This course trains young writers in key components of composition, reading, and analysis. As this course will utilize all new texts, students from earlier seminar classes can join, along with new students. Common Lit will serve as a repository of texts and writing exercises. Diagnostics at the beginning of the course will facilitate individualized instruction, and the small class size will offer an intensive environment designed to challenge each student. Grammar, diction, structure, mechanics, style, presentation, development, and revision will be practiced through the guided composition of creative and analytical pieces. Students will engage with a variety of free, online texts to analyze the language and deepen multi-layered interpretive skills for reading. The class will build effective communication and analytical skills through a close study of texts. This course is suitable for committed students in 4th-6thgrade levels.
