Course 1: Writing and Reading: Spring 2021 Seminar

This course is suitable for committed students in 4th-6thgrade levels.

This course trains young writers in key components of composition, reading, and analysis. As this course will utilize all new texts, students from the 2020 Foundational Seminar can take this as a second writing course, and new students are also encouraged to register. Diagnostics at the beginning of the course will facilitate individualized instruction, and the small class size will offer an intensive environment designed to challenge each student. Grammar, diction, structure, mechanics, style, presentation, development, and revision will be practiced through the guided composition of creative and analytical pieces. Students will engage with a variety of free, online texts to analyze the language and deepen multi-layered interpretive skills for reading.  Short stories and nonfiction pieces will be provided by the instructor based on student reading level and interest. In strengthening hallmarks of effective communication, this seminar gives students a competitive edge for all coursework. This course is suitable for committed students in 4th-6thgrade levels.

Course 2: English Upper-Level Spring 2021 Seminar

This course is designed for driven students in 7th-11thgrade levels.

In this advanced course, students will learn through individualized instruction that increases success in current English classes and prepares them for the college level. Students can take this course as a continuation of study after completing Advanced Composition and Textual Analysis, or they are welcome to join as new students. Several skills essential for high performance on exams and personal essays used for college admissions will be highlighted. Writers will train in grammar, style, and mechanics while writing and reading in various modes of composition. Special emphasis will be placed on research skills and project development. No textbook is required for this course; the instructor will provide new online texts throughout the semester. This course is designed for driven students in 7th-11thgrade levels.
