Challenge Math for Elementary Students -Level I

Course description:

This course is designed for students (2nd – 4th Graders) who have basic knowledge of arithmetic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) and some knowledge of fractions. The following concepts and skills will be studied in this course: 1.  Number sense and mental math/speed math training.  2. Multi-digit number operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and mixed operation rules.  3.  Fractions and fraction operations. 4. decimals, percent, and ratio.  5. Data organization and graphs.  6.  Geometric shapes and patterns.  7. Length, area,  time, mass, and volume. This course will not only enhance students understanding of mathematical concepts but will also stimulate students’ interest in math through solving challenging questions of varying levels of difficulty and type.

Challenge Math for Elementary Students -Level II

This course is designed for 5th – 6th Graders.  The following concepts and skills will be learnt by students in this course, including number sense and number patterns;  number operations; proper fractions, improper fractions and fraction operations; decimals, percent, and ratio and probability; data organization and graphs; Geometry; real world math problem solving strategies. This course will lead the students to take the challenge! – not only deepens students understanding of mathematical concepts, but also stimulates students’ interest through solving challenging and thought-provoking problems.

Pre-algebra/Algebra

Instructor: Dr. Huajin Zhou

Course description : This course is recommended for 5th to 6th graders and advanced 4th graders who are solid on arithmetic skills. Students will be introduced to integers, fractions, decimals, percent, ratios and proportions, step equations, linear equations and are taught how to solve basic equations using variables. It is designed to prepare students for algebra I course, and master topics needed to pass their school’s pre-algebra placement Credit by Examination.

Course description: T is the second part of the sequential course of Algebra 2, which is often called Algebra 2B. The primary goal of this course is to increase the ability of the students for mastering the core of Algebra 2 and to enhance their skills in solving 2 the difficult problems in Algebra 2. The course will actively engage students in a positive learning experience, in which there is increased appreciation and understanding of mathematics. The course curriculum is structured around the Common Core Standards through Algebra 2 textbook.

Prerequisite: Algebra 1 and Algebra 2A. Particularly, the students need to know the following topics: Foundations of functions, linear functions, quadratic functions, and polynomials.

Course content: The course will cover the second part of the content of Algebra 2. The main topics include Rational Functions, Exponential Functions, Logarithmic Functions, Sequences and Series, and Descriptive Statistics.  Total is 14 classes (1.5 hours per class).

Course description:

Precalculus is designed to prepare you to take and succeed in an AP or college Calculus course. The study of Precalculus and Calculus will be a foundation for your further study and in various fields such as medicine, pharmaceutical engineering, forensic sciences, economics, mechanical engineering, structural engineering, and computer software engineering just to name a few. This online course covers the Fundamental Precalculus for high school, often called Precalculus A. The primary goal of this course is to increase the ability of the students for mastering the core of Precalculus and to enhance their skills in solving the difficult problems in Precalculus. The course will actively engage students in a positive learning experience, in which there is increased appreciation and understanding of mathematics.

Prerequisite:  Algebra (without Trigonometry). Particularly, the students need to know the following topics: Foundations of functions, linear functions, quadratic functions, Solving linear and quadratic equations and inequalities.

Course content: The course will cover the preliminary part of Precalculus. The main topics are the following: A review of function properties; Polynomial and rational functions; Solving equations and inequalities; A review of composition of functions and inverse functions; Exponents and exponential functions; Logarithmic functions and properties; Right triangle trigonometry; Unit circle trigonometry; Sinusoidal and other periodic functions.

AMC 10 Competition Mathematics Class

The American Mathematics Competition (AMC) 10/12  is one of the most prestigious high school Math competitions in the USA and the world.  This course prepares student for the AMC 10  examination through students mastering problem-solving techniques and skills for the AMC 10 in Algebra, Counting, Geometry, or Number Theory. The course will cover the whole contest curriculum.
